The security concerns regarding digital road tax are justified

Fong Choong Fook, executive chairman of LGMS Bhd – a professional cybersecurity firm, said this is especially so after a series of massive data leaks involving the government were exposed last year.

Foong stated that the government’s handling of personal data has been suspicious after a series of data breaches were uncovered last year. Former transport minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong expressed concerns about the app’s security features and warned that the data of 33 million Malaysians, including 16 million driving licenses, could be at risk because of this.

Foong agreed with Wee’s assessment and warned that data leaks and manipulation pose a severe threat to individuals’ financial and personal information. He urged the government to prioritize proper security measures and intensive testing before deploying large-scale digitization projects.
